A picture is worth 1000 words. 

There is a photograph Kimber Whorton keeps on her refrigerator that she'll probably never throw away. It's not a family portrait or a vacation snapshot. Instead, it captures an ordinary workday, one that reminds her just how much she's capable of when life asks her to do the impossible.

"You can do whatever you decide to do."

That simple reminder has carried Kimber through the last five years as she built a thriving real estate career while raising three young boys with her husband, often balancing contracts, client calls, and motherhood all at once.

Today, Kimber is one of Solid Rock REALTORS®' rising stars, recognized as Rookie of the Year during her first year in the business before later earning the company's coveted REALTOR® of the Year award. Yet ask her what she's most proud of, and the conversation quickly turns away from production numbers and back toward the little boys who inspired her to take the leap in the first place.

"My family is my driving factor," she says. "They're my why."

Ironically, real estate wasn't always part of the plan.

Finding Home in Oklahoma

Kimber grew up in California, but life changed forever when her older sister was killed in a car accident in 2006. Grieving the unimaginable loss, Kimber's father relocated to Chelsea, Oklahoma, where he had longtime friends and connections through horses. Worried about him, Kimber promised that once he was settled, she'd follow. She packed up her life, left California behind, and headed for a town she'd never seen. The first thing she did was Google Chelsea.

"At that time, the only thing that popped up was a railroad that looked like it was going out of town," she laughs.

She had no idea what waited for her. Just two months after arriving, Kimber worked up the courage to visit a local gathering place by herself. That night she met Chad. The next day they went on their first date.

"We've literally been together every day since and have built a beautiful life," she smiles. Nearly two decades later, Oklahoma is home sweet home.

A Dream Worth Fighting For

After getting married, Kimber and Chad spent five difficult years trying to start a family. Eventually they turned to IVF. The process brought heartbreak after heartbreak with failed procedures, failed transfers, and months of uncertainty.

Finally, in December 2017, they learned they were expecting their first son, Reed. The joy was overwhelming. A few years later, they faced another difficult decision about their remaining embryos. Rather than wondering "what if," they decided to try one final time. Both embryos took.

Kimber still laughs remembering the moment she learned she was carrying twins.

"I was panicking. My husband had to pull over," she says. "He grabbed my shoulders and said, 'Tell me why you think we can't do this. We can do this.'"

Those twins, Ben and Blake, would ultimately change far more than the size of their family. They changed Kimber's career.

An Unexpected Calling

Before real estate, Kimber spent 11 years with the Rogers County Assessor's Office, including seven as Chief Appraiser. She understood property values, inspections, and the technical side of real estate. What she didn't expect was that she'd ever become an agent. In fact, she admits she hadn't always viewed real estate agents favorably.

Some of the interactions she experienced while working at the assessor's office left lasting impressions, not because of the transactions, but because of how she was treated. Then, while sitting in her car during a lunch break, wondering how she could financially support a family of five without sending her babies to daycare, she felt something she still struggles to explain.

"It hit me like a freight train," she says. "You need to get your real estate license." She laughs now. "I thought, 'God's got jokes.'" But she couldn't shake the feeling.

Before beginning her career, Kimber made herself a promise. She would become the kind of real estate agent she wished she'd encountered years earlier, someone who treated people with kindness, respect, and grace, whether anyone was watching or not.

Two days before delivering her twins, she completed her real estate coursework. One month after they were born, and despite surviving on almost no sleep, she passed her licensing exam on the first attempt.

"I cried and prayed and studied," she says. Then she got to work.

Finding the Right Fit

Kimber officially joined Solid Rock REALTORS® in January 2022, the only brokerage she has ever called home. Looking back, she believes she landed exactly where she was meant to be. Before making the leap, she sought advice from a trusted friend who had worked at Solid Rock for years.

"I said, 'Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Do you think I can do this?'"

The answer was yes. From the beginning, she found a culture that reflected the kind of real estate agent she wanted to become.

"Our brokers have led with such grace, faith, and compassion," Kimber says. "Everyone has made a place for me at the table. No one ever made me feel uncomfortable about trying to do business with my babies in tow and for that I am grateful."

That support mattered, especially during a season of life when every day felt like a balancing act. "My babies were the reason I got into this," she says. "I've built my whole real estate career with them at my feet." One day, an investor scheduled two inspections in Bartlesville, but childcare unexpectedly fell through.

Instead of canceling, Kimber loaded her infant twins into the car. She fed bottles between inspections, changed diapers, answered client questions, pushed a double stroller while inspectors worked, and somehow managed to keep everything moving.

The photograph from that day still hangs on her refrigerator.

"It's just a reminder," she says. "You're tough. You can do hard things. You can do whatever you decide to do."

That determination has defined Kimber's career from the very beginning.

She still remembers her first listing: a modest $90,000 home near the Arkansas state line. It wasn't glamorous, but it was hers. She represented both the buyer and seller, planted her very first sign in the yard, and walked away believing she had found exactly what she was meant to do.

"I'll never forget the feeling," she says.

That first transaction became the foundation for everything that followed. Kimber was named Rookie of the Year during her first year with Solid Rock REALTORS®, and every year since, her business has continued to grow. More recently, she received the company's highest honor, REALTOR® of the Year. The recognition caught her by surprise.

"So many times we feel like we're just surviving," she says. "We're just doing what we know is right because that's who we are, not because we think anyone is watching."

Receiving the award reminded her that people had been watching all along. "It was like, 'Wow...people see me.'"

As her business grows, she says she holds onto the ability to meet people where they are. “I had $200 to my name when I moved to Oklahoma. Now, my husband and I are building our real estate portfolio and I have a thriving real estate business. I know what it is like to have nothing and to want more. I want to be there for those people. I also understand people on the other side of the spectrum and can help successful people grow their legacies through real estate investments. Wherever people are on their journey, I can stand with them.” 

It's a picture of perseverance, a reminder that the life she's building today began with a simple decision to keep showing up, one client, one closing, and one bedtime story at a time.
