Misty L. Cowan didn’t just face life’s toughest challenges, she used them as fuel.
In 2016, after losing her husband to cancer, Cowan found herself stepping into full responsibility for her future and her three children. Instead of slowing down, she made a decision: step up, take control and build something bigger than the moment.
What followed wasn’t just a career shift, it was a complete transformation.
Nearly a decade later, Cowan has built a high-producing real-estate business and built a team at Keller Williams Premier, Cowan and Co Realty Group, proving that resilience, discipline and mindset truly drive success.
“I made a decision to grow from that point forward,” Cowan said. “I put my head down and went to work.”
Of course, Cowan’s drive didn’t start in real estate, it was forged early.
Growing up in an unstable environment, she learned independence, adaptability and grit long before adulthood. Those lessons built her rather than break her.
And when life demanded more, she was ready.
In 2016, everything shifted. With her husband gone, Cowan didn’t wait for answers, choosing instead to create her own.
“I knew it was time to step into a new level,” she said. “It wasn’t about surviving anymore, it was about building."
BUILT FOR MORE
Real estate became her vehicle.
She earned her license shortly after her loss, stepping into an industry that rewards effort, consistency and mindset. The first year was tough with just one sale, but she didn’t quit. She adjusted, learned and kept moving.
“Real estate will test you,” Cowan said. “You get out of it exactly what you put in. If you show up and do the work, the results follow. Stay humble and straightforward.”
Now in her 11th year, she is operating at a high level, closing $11 million last year and targeting $15 million in production this year, backed by a strong pipeline and referral-driven business.
Cowan credits a major shift in her growth to a mindset breakthrough and mentorship from Mandy Sherman and Holly Woodward in her early years as an agent. They were the ones who pushed her to commit fully.
“When someone challenged me to decide — really decide — that I was going to do this, everything changed,” she said. “That’s when I locked in.”
That commitment sharpened her skills, especially as a problem solver, which is one of the most valuable traits in a high-volume real estate business.
“The more deals you do, the more challenges you face,” Cowan said. “I’ve learned how to handle them and keep moving forward.”
You have to have a strong mindset. Cowan made a conscious shift early on, and she refused to stay stuck in setbacks.
“I chose to look at everything and ask, ‘How is this making me better?’ That question changes everything,” she said.
LEADING WITH MINDSET
That mindset now shapes not only her business, but how she leads her family.
Every day, she focuses on progress, perspective and growth, and she instills that same discipline in her kids.
Faith remains a cornerstone in Cowan’s life, giving her clarity, direction and strength.
FAITH, FAMILY, AND FUTURE
“I believe there’s always something greater ahead,” she said. “You just have to keep moving toward it.”
Today, she is focused on building a business and cementing a legacy.
In shifting and starting her own team — Cowan and Co Realty Group with Keller Williams Premier — Cowan is stepping into the next level of leadership. Her children are already watching and learning the business.
“It’s about showing them what’s possible,” she said. “That no matter where you start or what happens in life, you can build something incredible. Believe in yourself and surround yourself with those who support and encourage you.”
Her kids and that foundation have carried her into a new chapter of her personal life. After several years on her own, Cowan met her partner, Cody, who she describes as supportive and aligned with her family’s values.
“God replaces things in different ways,” she said. Never quit; you haven't lived your best day yet! she said.
