Shelby Prather

“It’s not how hard you get hit. It’s about if you get back up.”

Jumping into real estate isn’t for the faint of heart. And Shelby Prather? She’s anything but faint. She earned her license at the very end of 2023, a time when most agents pause, waiting for the new year. Not Shelby. She doesn’t wait for perfect timing; she makes her own.

At the time, Shelby was full-time Director of Human Resources and Accounting, mastering numbers, contracts, and the financial details that would become her secret weapon in real estate. Throughout 2024, she balanced her corporate career while building a foundation in real estate that few new agents ever take the time to understand.

Then came October 2024. Shelby was laid off from the oil and gas field. The stakes were real: three kids, a household to support, and a career crossroads. Her husband, Trevor, asked the hard question, “You’ve had your license a year and a half and closed three deals. Are you going to commit, or keep playing at this?”

Shelby chose commitment. She didn’t go back to corporate America. She went all in. She believed in herself, and she hasn’t stopped thriving since.

By January 2025, Shelby set a clear goal and went for it. She shifted brokerages, devoted herself to real estate full-time, and watched her career explode. The numbers speak for themselves: three deals under $1 million in 2024. Thirteen and a half million in 2025. More than luck, it was grit, urgency, and a refusal to play small.

What sets Shelby apart isn’t just sales. It's purpose. She challenges old myths: perfect credit, 20% down—unnecessary barriers that keep people from homeownership. Of 48 recent clients, 42 were first-time buyers, and fewer than five brought money to the closing table. Shelby’s expertise and strategy turned the dream of homeownership into reality for so many.

“If you know what you’re doing, you can use the system for your clients, not against them,” she explains. Grants, assistance programs, and credits exist, but if your agent knows how to leverage them. Shelby ensures her clients walk into the closing room with confidence, whether their budget is $200,000 or $2 million.

Her drive is deeply personal. She thrives on breaking generational cycles, helping families buy their first homes, and creating wealth for the next generation. “I would have never bought a house if I didn’t talk to you,” clients tell her. Being part of that transformation is priceless.

At home, life is just as bold. Shelby and Trevor navigate a constantly moving family dynamic with Trevor building power lines across the U.S., Shelby running a booming real estate business, and three kids keeping life unpredictable. Blake, 19, a college football player transferring to the University of Wisconsin; Hollis, 9; and Hadleigh, 7, whom she describes as a firecracker who already shows signs of a future CEO.

Shelby thrives on energy and momentum. Her day starts with coffee and an Alani energy drink, moving from client to client, town to town, before spending time with family. She lives for the thrill—not just winning offers, but getting people to the closing table who never imagined it possible. A former competitive college athlete herself, her mindset is simple: if you never try, you never win.

Real estate hasn’t just reshaped Shelby’s life; it’s given her the freedom, the purpose, and the foundation for the life she wants. One set of keys at a time, she’s changing lives, and she’s just getting started.

“Real estate has changed my life tremendously,” Shelby says. And she’s showing everyone else how it can change theirs, too.
