Tami McInnis

"A rising tide lifts all boats."

For real estate agent Tami McInnis at RE/MAX Results, this quote isn’t just a catchy line—it’s the core of her career. “Collaborating with other agents and learning from them has been so pivotal and critical to my career,” says Tami. “This career can be very isolating, so I approach it with the mindset that we’re on a team—lifting each other up and supporting one another.”

Tami’s collaborative spirit took root early in her real estate journey. Before the pandemic, she made a point to show up to the office consistently, three to four times a week. “Even if I had nothing to do, I’d visit with the other agents. I learned so much from some of the greats in the business,” she shares.

A Career Built from the Inside Out

Tami’s real estate story didn’t begin with a license and a listing—it began behind the scenes. In 2006, she started working as an assistant to a top-producing agent in the Tulsa/Broken Arrow area, Arlynda Bright, who had been in the business since 1977. Over 14 years, Tami quietly absorbed the intricacies of the industry, organizing contracts, managing marketing, and handling back-office operations.

By 2012, she earned her license, and in 2015 officially stepped into the role of REALTOR®. “It was a slow and methodical build. I wasn’t thrown into the deep end like many agents,” she explains. “I had a mentor who allowed me to walk through every step of the process. It felt really natural.”

Her mentor’s “old-school” style of negotiating, client care, and hands-on education left an impression on Tami. “She explained the ‘why’ behind every move, and I absorbed it all,” she says. Today, Tami combines that traditional foundation with modern tech-savviness—texts, FaceTime, email, CRM systems—but she still knows when it’s time to pick up the phone or meet a client in person. “People still crave that connection,” she adds. Tami offers the best of both worlds.

Tami’s heart is in every client interaction. “It all comes down to customer care,” she says. Whether it’s first-time homebuyers or seniors selling a home they’ve lived in for 50 years, she guides clients with empathy, expertise, and an educational approach.

Her background in education—she came close to finishing an elementary education degree—still shines through. “I love working with first-time buyers. Teaching and guiding people through big life decisions is incredibly rewarding.”

Tami has even coined a tongue-in-cheek phenomenon among her past clients: “I have baby dust,” she laughs. “Most of my clients end up having a baby a year or two after buying a home with me!”

She’s equally passionate about helping older clients navigate downsizing or relocating to be closer to family. “It’s a pivotal moment in their lives. It’s an honor to be part of that.”

From Banking to Real Estate: A Natural Fit

Before diving into real estate, Tami built a successful decade-long career in banking. It began with a part-time teller job in Texas while attending Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. With a gift for customer service, she quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a branch manager and regional sales manager for BancFirst Tulsa.

Her transition to real estate felt seamless. “I’ve always loved the personal side of helping clients,” says Tami. “Banking became so transactional, but I thrived in those pockets where I could sit down and connect with people. Real estate brought me back to that.”

It also brought her a new level of flexibility, especially after becoming a mom. “I didn’t want to return to banking after having my first baby,” she says. “Real estate gave me the chance to be

my own boss and grow at my own pace.”

Roots and Resilience

Tami was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and raised in Rogers until her sophomore year of high school, when her family relocated to Tulsa. She met her husband during her first year at Tulsa Community College. At age 20, the two were married, and days later, moved to Pearl City, Hawaii, where her husband was stationed with the Navy.

A week after arriving, she found herself alone in a 500-square-foot apartment overlooking Pearl Harbor while her new husband deployed for a two-week exercise. “It taught me a lot about resilience, how to build community, and how to make friends in a new place,” she recalls. “This was 1993—pre-cell phone era. Every call to my family cost $50!”

Her husband's Navy career eventually brought them to Corpus Christi, where Tami returned to school and banking. By 1996, the couple was back in Tulsa, and she was ready for her next chapter.

Family and Fun

Tami and her husband have been married for 32 years. They have two sons: one is about to turn 21 and is currently working on cybersecurity certifications, following in his father’s footsteps. Their younger son is 17 and preparing for his senior year of high school.

About four years ago, Tami and her husband developed a strong interest in their Scottish ancestry. Her husband’s family name, MacInnes, has deep roots in Scotland and North Carolina, where many Scots settled in the 1700s. His uncle, a former president of the International Association of Clan MacInnes, passed the torch of family history and clan involvement to him.

Together, they joined the Scottish Club of Tulsa, reconnecting with a community important to their family for generations. They’ve enjoyed attending Scottish Games, and in summer 2024, traveled to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games — the largest Scottish gathering in North America.

This March, they took their boys to Scotland. “It was magical to see where my husband’s ancestors lived,” Tami says. The trip included visits to the Isle of Iona, ancestral graveyards, and historic castles. There’s something powerful about tracing your family’s history.

Born to Dance

Outside of real estate, Tami’s energy shines on the dance floor. “About 23 years ago, I rediscovered Jazzercise,” she says. “My mom did it in the ’80s, and I fell in love with it.” Tami became an instructor 13 years ago and teaches four or more classes a week.

“I love to dance and I need the camaraderie and peer pressure to keep up with everyone else,” she laughs. “Plus, I’ve built a wonderful community of ladies through it—many of my Jazzercise ladies are also my real estate clients.”

As she puts it, “They give me a microphone and a stage. I’m in control of the conversation for an hour four times a week.”

With her microphone, stage, and sparkle, Tami brings rhythm to everything she does—whether it’s leading a fitness class, closing a real estate deal, or mentoring a new agent.

And off the stage, the spotlight doesn’t dim. Whether she’s closing record-setting deals or helping newlyweds find their very first home, Tami brings that same confident voice and commanding presence to real estate—turning dreams into reality, one client at a time. She can’t imagine a more fulfilling career than that.
